The polite bride’s guide to saying no.

Today’s Post is inspired by Anna Marie who got in touch wondering if we could give her some advice on how best to ‘let down’ wedding vendors she had met or spoken to about her wedding.First up, wedding vendors & venues will know that they aren’t the only person you are speaking to. We appreciate that of course you are going to shop around, and some of us even encourage that! It is important to us {too} that you work with the right people for you. So with that in mind, we know that not every client we meet with is going to book/ hire us. { We would love if they did 🙂 }.

So how do you say no, politely, once you’ve spoken or met with us? Lets take a couple of scenarios and Ill give examples as to how you can ‘let us down’ gently 🙂

1. You’ve sent an initial query email, just looking for some pricing or perhaps a brochure.

On receipt of the information/ brochure you can just reply with:

Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly I will take a look at this and get back to you should I wish to proceed. 

2. You’ve phoned up direct and asked a few questions. 

I would suggest you end the conversation with,

 I will need to discuss this with my fiancé{e} and ill come back to you if we would like to take a meeting. 

3. You’ve met with and received a quotation from a venue or wedding supplier. 

Thank you so much for taking the time to meet with us and discussing the options and sending on your quotation. While we loved your work/ venue we’ve decide to go with another supplier on this occasion. 

If you wish you could add a reason, such as:

  • We’ve looked at our budget and realistically can not afford your services. 
  • We’ve found a wedding suppliers/ venue that we feel is a better fit for us. 
  • We’ve decided to go in a different direction for this aspect of our wedding and found the prefect supplier. 

Thanks again. 

4. You’ve hired a particular wedding supplier/ booked a venue, signed and paid a deposit and now wish to end the agreement.

Now of course this scenarios is a little trickier and will often be directed by the cancellation clauses in the contract you signed, but some couples find themselves in a position where by the either have to let their wedding suppliers/ venues go or to fire them.

This most definitely should be take place in person and as a last resort, having clearly explained to the vendor in question, your reasons for being unhappy/ ending the agreement.

Just a ‘word to the wise’

In the case of scenario 1 & 2 where the wedding supplier has your contact details, until they receive a definite no from you, you might receive a call or email from them wondering if you had reached a decision or if you wanted more information.

This is them merely chasing your business { good business practice for them }, again, be polite,

  • if you want more information, ask for it,
  • if you’ve not reached a decision and would still like to keep them as an option, just say so
  • if you’ve decide not to go with them or have someone booked, thank them for the call/ email and just say that you have booked a supplier you felt was a better fit for you

Above all, don’t be afraid to say no, we wont bite and a decisive action means we’re not left wondering and you’re not left ‘bothered’ by our ‘catch up’ emails or calls :)
